I wanted to learn italian for the longest time. (I knew some words and some expression, but not enough to be able to hold a conversation) so I bought the berlitz- self tutorial cd’s and study book, and it’s crap.

The problem isn’t with the level or qualities of said items. But the way they decided to teach the language.

Just for example:

E questa e’ una Toyota. Una macchina giapponesse.

E’ una fiat. Una macchina italiana.

E la Chevrolet e’ una macchina Americana.

Not very inspiring.

I mean, the Italian is one of the most artistically, aesthetically , culturally, rich nations, and all that they could come up with are cars?!?

So I thought I could do a much better job.

So as my holiday present, I give you the first ever:

A few notes before I start.- I’m not a professional teacher or linguistics specialist, but I’ve spoken Hebrew for the past 24 years, so I figure, I’m pretty good at that.
the Hebrew here, is a daily Hebrew, not a literary one. So don’t try to use it among high-brow Jewish crowds.
i'll be using latin letters instead of hebrew ones (for obvious reasons)
and now a few comments about Hebrew:

every verb adj. pronoun, pronomen, and noun, has it’s own gender, and number. ( F- stands for female m- for male. Sg- singular pl- plural. ) . a verb inclination also is particular to a person (1^st 2^nd 3^rd ).
The noun precedes the adjective
The preposition is usually joined in with the object.
The accent in Hebrew is usually on the ultimate syllable, in case it isn’t I put the syllable in bold letters.
Pronounciation:

- e- (as in beck)

- u- (as in full)

- o- (short as in boy)

- a – (as in far)

- I- (as in if)

- Ch- (as in the Spanish- Juan) ok for some reason english speakers find this impossible to pronounce.( hint: It shouldn’t sound like coughing out a hair ball.. )try relaxing your mouth, the sound doesn’t need to come from the bottom of your throat, but from the edge of your mouth.

His presence radiates an undeniable regal aura that neutralizes Casiness. (“Majestic is not the word I’d use to describe you”)

But the jewel on his monarchs’ crown is the public affirmation of his coolness.

“Listen to this. ‘Daniel Rydell’ Daniel! Casey, not Dan, not Danny, Daniel! ‘A Sports anchor at sports night, was spotted backstage in a Neil Young Concert.’ ‘People weekly’ magazine. What do you say to that?”

“That’s very impressive.”

They enter the changing room.

“What do you mean?”

“What do you mean, what do I mean? I mean exactly what I said: that’s very impressive.”

“You’re humoring me.”

“I’m not.”

“You are! You’re being condescending.”

“I’m not. I honestly congratulate you on this recognition.”

“No.” Dan rethinks “What you meant to say is that only the uncool need their coolness acknowledged.”

“Nope.”

“So what are you saying?”

“I’m saying: that’s very impressive.”

“I don’t get it, where’s the catch?”

“There’s no catch Danny.”

“Sure there is. Wait, what was that?”

Casey puts on his blouse after removing his sweater.

“What was what?”

“That thing on your back, that’s too big and well defined to be a birth mark.”

“Oh that.” Casey opts for nonchalance “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Funny, because from here it looked like a tattoo.”

“It’s not.”

“It’s not?”

“Well maybe it is.”

“Is it a permanent tattoo or will it come off if I lick it?”

“Why would you lick it?”

“I might. I’m a very tactile person.”

“That’s very disturbing.”

“Answer the question.”

“It’s permanent. You got to promise not to tell anyone.”

“Why not?”

“That’s not exactly the pinnacle of my career.”

“Show me.”

“No”

“Come on show me! You know you want to”

“No”

“Is it a really embarrassing one? Is it a big red heart with your mothers’ name inside?”

They sit at the anchor desk.

“Not a word.” Dan promises.

Alison finishes makeup.

“Excuse me! Excuse me everyone.” Dan calls. “Before the show starts I have an announcement to make.”

“Is it about your New York renaissance?” Dana asks annoyed.

“No!”

“Is it about the leggy brunette?” Natalie tries.

“No. Casey got a permanent tattoo of my name.”

Casey buries his face in his hands.

“That’s very romantic.” Dana says.

“I do not have a tattoo of Dan’s name.” Casey calls out. “I hate you”.

All’s well in the kingdom of Dan.

The throne’s widely admired (“she asked you to move your chair, not for you autograph”)

The treasury’s full to the brim. (“No Dan I’m not paying for this round”)

And the king is erudite and wise (“for the last time Dan, your script was fine”)

“So when did you get it?” He asks Casey.

Casey reaches to grab his drink from the bar.

“Could you possibly, please, forget about it?”

“No such luck Casey.”

“Three days ago.”

“Were you having a midlife crisis?”

“I’m not middle-aged Dan.”

“No. but you’re quickly getting there.”

“If you must know I did it on a dare.”

“A dare?!?”

“I was on a date with Pixley and we were challenging each other. And I ended up doing that.”

“So you and Pixley? It’s getting serious.”

“No. No too serious.”

“You permanently scarred your body for someone you’re not that serious about?”

“She used to be a cheerleader.”

“And?”

“I never dated a cheerleader.”

“I was sure Lisa was a cheerleader.”

“No. Lisa was in the student body, later a treasurer. Cheerleaders don’t normally date gymnasts.”

“You’re reliving your high school years?”

“It was fun Danny. I try not to overanalyze it”

“So what did you dare her to do?”

“Who?”

“Pixley”

Casey grins evilly “A gentleman never tells.”

All’s well in the kingdom of Dan.

Even his foes succumb to his charms. (“Sam hardly even remembers your name.”)

The subjects are compliant. (“Dan I’m not your secretary, and stop looking down my shirt!”)

And the court’s full of laughter and jest (“Could we please have one smooth rundown.”)

“You want to get together after the show? I’ve taped last night’s game.” Dan says to Casey on their way to their office.

“I can’t. I have a date.”

“Pixley?”

“No. her name is Enika she’s an installation artist.”

“Enika?”

“It’s Swedish”

“You’re dating a Swedish installation artist?”

“She’s very successful.”

“I’m sure.”

“I met her at the Tattoo parlor.”

“While on a date with Pixley?”

“No I returned later to ask her out.”

“You’re dating someone you’ve met at a tattoo parlor?”

“Yes I am.”

“I’m impressed. Speaking of Tattoos, I still need to see yours.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”

“You know I’m just going to continue guessing until you’ll show it to me.”

“I’m not in the least bothered.”

“And spread ugly rumors about it around the office.”

“Still not bothered.”

“It’s a cartoon isn’t it? Tweety bird.”

“I’m ignoring you.”

“It is. Isn’t it? You got a giant headed yellow bird on your back.”

Casey walks away calmly.

“I’m gonna find out! I’ll take drastic measures if I have to.” Danny calls at his back.

The heralds all carry good news. (“Dan this is the last time I answer your phone.”)

Many come baring gifts to the palace (“will you please give me back the camera you’ve burrowed”)

Love is blossoming all around. (“I’m sure the brunette is not screening your calls.”)

“So how was your date?” he asks Casey

“Have you ever heard of tantric sex?”

“Yes.”

“So has Enika.”

“So I take it, it went well.”

“It did.”

“Is last night the reason you’re scratching your chest.”

“Sort of.”

“Has it something to do with tantra?”

“Not directly.”

“Talk!”

“I sort of… kind of… pirmanibes” Casey mumbles under his breath.

“You did what?”

“Are you talking to yourself?” Sam finally looks up at him.

“I’m sorry are we supposed to be having a conversation.”

“Yes. I tell you that Casey is devising a plan, to steal my identity, and you’re supposed to say ‘you’re just being paranoid, Casey’s not trying to take over your life’”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

“The new Yorker published an article about the new promising upcoming installation artist, who got her work displayed in MOMA. They interviewed her along with her new boyfriend- Mr. Casey McCall. They interviewed him about ART Sam. The man knows as much about art as I do about soccer.”

“I don’t understand.”

“You see Sam. Casey was always the mature and experienced one, the better paid one. And I was OK with that because I was always the cool one. But if Casey’s going to become the tattooed- Swedish installation artists dating- having tantric sex- one. What’ll be left for me?”

“No. What I don’t understand is what makes you think I care.”

“We’re friends.”

“Dan. After we married, my ex-wife was under the impression I wanted children. She was obviously wrong. It resulted in our divorce.”

“This is good, you’re sharing. We’re conversing intimately.”

“I may have a problem, I realize, sending out the wrong signals. Because here you are misguidedly thinking we’re friends.”

“I see what you’re doing. You’re trying to push me away to stop me from getting too close.”

“You’re right about the pushing away part, but somehow you’re still here.”

“That’s because you’re subconsciously enjoying my company. Now back to Casey. I figure I need to get him drunk.”

“Go away!”

“Yes! Definitely drunk. Thank you. I really think we’re getting closer don’t you?”

“I’ll be back to report progress.”

“I’ll make sure I’m very far away when you do.”

The kingdom is under siege. Upheaval’s at bay (“I just said I’m going to the bathroom”)

Extreme times call for extreme measures (“Jagermeister?”)

The king shall not rest till peace is restored. (“Sure I’ll take a third shot”)

“Jagermeister and football are not an obvious combination Danny.”

Casey and Dan make themselves comfortable on Danny’s couch.

“We had a very good show, you appeared in the New Yorker, we ought to celebrate.”

“Great, but you should know I now have a much better capacity for this stuff.”

“We’ll see about that. Another shot?”

“Sure”

Later…

“Why aren’t you drunk?”

“Why do you want me drunk?”

“I want to see your tattoo.”

“O.K”

“O.K?”

“O.K”

Casey gets up turns around and takes off his shirt. Danny gets up to have a better look.

“Shit”

Soft fingers are stroking Casey’s upper back.

“What?” Casey looks over his shoulder.

“It’s good.”

“Isn’t it?”

“It’s good, dammit; I really hoped it would be awful so I could use it against you.”

“Sorry to disappoint you.”

The soft touch of fingers is replaced by something just as soft but wetter.

“Did you just lick me?”

“I had to check.”

“It won’t come off, you can stop licking it.”

“Oh, this is part of plan B.”

“What’s plan B?”

“Well I’m hoping to find you make funny noises during sex.”

“You’d sleep with me just to find out I make funny noises?

“No. That would be an added bonus.”

But mostly it’s a day of rest as long as you haven’t got your producer knocking on your door.

“Dan, I promised myself I wouldn’t get involved.” Dana pushed in.

“And yet here you are…” Dan moaned.

“I’m a producer, getting involved is part of my job description.”

“I’m pretty sure that’s not true.”

“I’m doing you a favor. Against my better judgment, I might add, so just shut up and listen!”

Dan set down.

In silence.

“I’m sorry.” She almost whispered.

“What for?” Dan was confused.

“For mistreating you”

“Mistreating me? Dana, I’m sorry for what happened with me and you and Casey. I’m sorry for the rundown yesterday. Casey was being an asshole.”

“Don’t apologize for him.” Dana was upset.

“I tried making him apologize himself, but you know him.”

“That’s not what I meant, and you don’t give Casey enough credit. You two have nothing to apologize for. If anything, I’m the one who needs apologizing.”

“Dana…”

“No. just listen! OK?” Dana set down. “The dating plan... it’s...Suddenly the possibility of Casey and me together, got all too real, and I freaked. I thought the plan would buy me some time. Maybe during that time, I would…”

“Fall in love with him…”

“Yes”

“So why were you so upset about us dating?”

Dana was silent for a while and then softly said, “Six years ago, he was approached by the guys at NBC, about doing the Late Night show.”

“But he turned them down, I know. Because of Lisa...”

“Yes, he turned them down, but it had nothing to do with Lisa.”

“It was. She made him think he wasn’t funny, that he couldn’t do it.”

“He didn’t think he could do it. But it wasn’t because of Lisa. It was because of you.”

“What are you talking about?”

“They asked him to write some jokes for an audition. He came to me the night before, to try them out. He would read one, and I would laugh, and he’s say, ‘but do you think Dan will think it’s funny?’”

“He never told me that.” Dan seemed even more puzzled.

“Don’t you see? You’re his touchstone. He wants to improve himself for you. He wants to deserve you. He’s willing to change for you, like he never did for any of us. I’ve betrayed you Danny. I thought if he spent more time with you, he’d realize what he feels for you, what he always have.”

“What made you think I’d feel the same?”

“The fact, that I’m not blind.”

Dan didn’t say a word. Dana got up to leave, and as she reached the doorway she turned and said.

“He loves you Dan. Like he never loved Lisa, like he’ll never love me. “

And there was really nothing more to say.

“Hey” Casey opened the door.

“Hi...”Dan said shyly. “I thought, maybe, if you weren’t too busy, you’d like to go to dinner with me.

“Are you asking me out on a date?”

“Yes I guess I am… what do you say?”

“No.”

“No?” Dan was shocked “Oh… wow…I didn’t expect a no. Not that I don’t deserve a no, but still… “

“Dan”

“No, you’re right, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I shouldn’t have assumed you’d still be interested.”

“Dan, shut up!”

“Shut up?”

“Yes. I’m saying no to a date, because I don’t want to date you.”

“You don’t?”

“No. I want to be in whatever comes right after dating.”

“Just love?” Dan grinned.

“Yeah that” Casey said and pulled him in for a kiss.

“Does that mean you forgive me?” Dan backed away enough to ask.

“Yes. Do you know why?”

“Why?”

“Because, to error is human” Casey pointed at Dan. “But to forgive-divine” he pointed at himself.

“You’re divine?” Dan said incredulously.

“As I recall ‘oh god, Casey, right there, oh god oh god’”

And Dan shut him up with a kiss.

Dinner was postponed

“You were wrong you know.” Casey said much later, as he was nakedly pressed against Dan’s back.

“What about?” Dan asked hazily.

“Just love. It doesn’t have to come as a second stage to anything. Sometimes, it catches you unprepared, sometimes it stealthily creeps in, slowly, gradually, sinking in, until you’re soaked in it.”

“That’s very poetic.”

“I had the right muse.”

“Where did you learn so much about love?”

“I had a very good teacher.”

“Yes you did.” Dan agreed.

And the kiss they shared was a promise that they’ll never have to date again.

I was eighteen going on ageless. We were all shining stars in the decaying age of aesthetics. Revolting stars, morning stars in a nameless revolution we didn’t even realize was dying. We had one notion of beauty- and his name was Brian Slade.

I was eighteen in London, the homeland of lost souls, where the victims of war were comparing scabs and wounds, hiding in shelters. The children of love, of our former decade, were now trading their tie-dye shirts for suits and ties, their communal habitats for nice semi-detached properties in the suburbs. Long gone was the age of Aquarius.

I was eighteen and had just learnt my first valuable lesson- the law of gravity is a lie. The world is made of air, for there is no substance. Love is sex. Beauty is glitter. Our faces- masks.

I was eighteen until that night- when every kiss scorched reality in me, and every touch turned idea into matter. He fucked me into existence.

I was eighteen until that night- and after that I was nothing.

Ten years later, and the questions I ask- all yield the same old answer, just from a different point of view- a sadder one.

I’m twenty eight and have just learned my second lesson- smiles lie. But when the smile is gone- there is no truth behind it, just a new mask.

I am twenty eight and wearing the mask of a reporter. I hadn’t chosen it. I hadn’t chosen my masks since I was eighteen. Neither does anyone else.

I am twenty eight, but I am nothing. His look as he gets up to leave, tells me he had never worn a mask. In a world where everyone has his own mask- the mask-less is the killer. Reality is death.

The network’s announcement comes out somewhat bitter- sweet. It feels like a favor he shouldn’t accept. In other times, a former him wouldn’t have, but here he is, hanging on to a sinking ship that shouldn’t have been built in the first place.

He changed himself for THEM. Writing what he thought they’d like. His new material is less humorous, more controversial. His dialogues altered, his characters, almost unrecognizable.

And hubris is in the mirror laughing at him, making the memory of when he should have insisted more painful.

Aaron wonders if there’s a television heaven for dead shows.

Summary: just read it. It’s very short.

He had to go back home because really, he had no where else to go.

Maybe Casey would be gone by the time he got there…

He wasn’t.

In fact, he was in his kitchen cooking him breakfast.

Casey did always have a perfect timing. Dan didn’t even realize he was hungry until he smelled the frying eggs.

Casey didn’t turn around. He asked Danny where he went with a voice filled with pain.

“Jogging.” Dan answered

“I thought you hated jogging” Casey said, still facing the stove.

“Um…Casey about last night…”

“It would have been nice to wake up together.” Casey finally turned around but moved no closer. He wasn’t smiling.

“Could we possibly forget it happened?”

“No.”

“It was a mistake.”

“No it wasn’t”

“So what do you expect to happen now?” Dan raised his voice. “We become an Item? Come out on national television?”

“Maybe, I truly haven’t thought that far.”

“You clearly haven’t.”

“What are you so afraid of?”

“Everything, Casey. Why aren’t you?”

“Because everything else pales in comparison to this.”

“this?”

“I love you Danny and I’m pretty sure you love me too. Stop making this so hard”

“I do love you, Casey, but what happens six months from now, or even a year, when just like with Dana, you realize you don’t really love me, or that you’re not gay. I won’t be able to watch you leave Casey.”

“I will never leave you…” Casey whispered, trying to touch Danny’s face. Danny backed away.

“Yes. You’re right. You’ll never leave, you’ll stay, despite being miserable and out of love. I’ve watched you with Lisa, I can’t let you go through that again.” Danny’s voice softened “You don’t really love me Casey. Just because it looks like love and feels easy like you think love is- doesn't make it love. You don’t just fall in love with someone you’ve known for ten years. Let’s just forget about it.”

“For the past ten years I’ve been told incessantly what I do and do not feel, who I do and do not love. I hate it. I know how I feel, Dan. What more can I do to prove it to you?”

“Forget about this.” Dan answered.

“Anything but that…” Casey leaned in to kiss Dan and turned to leave.

As it turns out, Dan wasn’t really hungry after all.

Just when he thought he had about enough of Casey, there was Casey again, at 2:00 AM in the morning, knocking on his door.

Like his mind wasn’t overly occupied with him as it is.

“Casey? what the hell?!?”

But Casey didn’t say a word. He just pushed past Dan and stood in the middle of his living room.

And before Dan could say ‘Starland vocal band’ Casey’s shirt was off.

“What are you doing?” Dan asked puzzled. Casey’s remained silent.

He decided that if Casey was going crazy, he was going there alone. *He* was going to sleep. At least he meant to. That was before he realized that to get to his bedroom he’d have to somehow get past Casey, who was now down to his boxers.

Just as Casey started taking them off, Danny swiftly swiveled around to face the wall.

“Turn around Danny”

“Are you naked?”

“Yes”

“Then I’m quite comfortable the way I am and I’m going to stay this way, until you get your sanity and your clothes back on.”

“Are you afraid of seeing me naked?”

”Casey, friends don’t just stand around naked in front of each other.”

“What are you talking about? You’ve seen me naked a million times.”

“Yes, but not like this.”

“Like what?”

“I don’t know…”

“Like a potential lover?”

“We’re just friends Casey.”

“If that’s the case then you should have no problem seeing me naked, unless, of course, that’s not the case”

Danny turned around to show Casey he was completely unaffected by Casey’s current state of nudity.

“See? Just friends.” He said, and his voice trembled because the combination of Casey’s naked form and mischievous sex oozing grin was making him weak at the knees.

“O.K. so, as my friend and my love guru, I want you to tell me what you think of my body.”

“You must be joking.”

“Dead serious, and I want you to be specific too, none of that general complimentary stuff.”

“I’m not doing this.”

“Sure you are, consider it as a friend helping out a friend. Here I’ll guide you: Let’s start with something easy. What do you think about my hands?”

“If I do this do you promise to get dressed and leave?”

“Promise!”

“O.K, you have very nice hands.”

“I said, be specific, I’m not leaving till you do it right.”

“O.K!” Danny gave up. He thought, while observing the hands from a distance (as if he didn’t already know exactly how they looked like) then said hesitantly “They’re big, but not too big, umm…just the right size, and your fingers are long and lean they look gentle and soft and somehow also rough…I don’t know, I don’t think I’m very good at this.”

“You’re doing great, go on. What about my arms?”

“Umm…well, they’re pretty toned, but not too buffed up, just ummm… appropriate.”

“Appropriate?” Casey snickered. “What about my shoulders? What about my chest?”

“God Casey I don’t know let’s stop now, please.”

“Because, I kinda like my chest, it’s hairy but virile you know? And just in the right shape for my waist, which, from the back..” Casey turned around and looked over his shoulder “curves up pretty nicely down to my ass. I have a nice ass, not hairy at all.” Then he turned back “and my dick…it’s not the biggest I’ve see, but I’d say I’m well equipped at least girth-wise, and I’ve been told that that’s what matters anyways. And it’s shape, well…” that’s when Casey grabbed his cock and started rubbing up and down.

Dan’s mouth went dry, and very soon he found himself facing the wall again, cursing under his breath.

“Dan, I’m a find.”

“And modest…” Dan made an unsuccessful attempt at a joke.

“Why don’t you want me?”

Suddenly there was heat all around Danny and a familiar hand was placed right next to where Dan’s forehead rested on the wall, another hand was pushing up the hemline of his T-shirt.

He meant to push Casey away, to shove him somehow.

He didn’t mean to tilt his head to let Casey’s mouth get a better access to his neck.

He meant to say stop, but all that came out was ‘Yes’.

He meant to push his shirt back down, but he was already stepping out of his boxers.

It was only later as they were on his bed, and Casey was lowering himself on Dan’s dick, that he realized he might have let it go too far.

It was only when he found out Casey was planning to spend the night, that he realized that *he* had to get out.

It was six o’clock in the morning in central park, but it wasn’t the jogging that made it hard for him to breath. It was the lump in his throat.

And, honestly, he didn’t mean to… he didn’t mean to cry at all.

Casey did return accompanied by Dana just in time for the rundown. They entered the meeting room smiling. Dan wasn’t sure why, but his heart was threatening to tear off his chest.

He was so distracted all through the meeting that after Dana finally asked if anyone has anything else he wants to add, he barely noticed what Kim said.

But he was sure his name was in there somewhere.

“I said- I think it’s about time Dan told us who sent him those flowers.” Kim repeated.

“I did” he heard Casey’s voice beside him.

“So it’s true. You and Dan are truly dating…” Natalie said.

“No” –“yes”

He and Casey answered simultaneously.

“We had two dates, but Dan won’t date me anymore. Apparently I’m an egotistical, self absorbed, can’t- be- alone- for-more- than- two- seconds jerk.”

“That’s not what I said, and those were not dates.”

“Is it because you don’t find me attractive? A lot of people do, you know. Kim, aren’t I attractive?”

“You’re very handsome Casey.”

“Don’t encourage him.” Dan furrowed his brow.

“He did send you flowers. I think you should date him.”

“I agree” Natalie agreed.

“See everyone else thinks you should date me.”

“Good, now that we’re all in agreement, let us end this meeting.” Isaac said and got up. Everyone else followed.

“I can’t believe you just did that” Dan said once they reached their office.

“I decided I’m going to prove you wrong.”

“Prove me wrong by showing up all smiley faced with Dana”

“I can’t believe it- you’re jealous”

“I am not jealous.”

“You are too.”

“I’m not.”

“You don’t have to. I broke it off with Dana.”

“Huh”

“’Huh’- you’ll date me?”

“No, just a non-specific, generic ‘huh’.”

“So you won’t date me?”

“Casey, you’re not gay.”

“Well I want to sleep with you. That’s a little gay.”

“I’m going to go out for awhile. While I’m gone, I want you to try to remember you were once a sane individual.”

Denial, Denial, Denial…

Those are the basic guidelines to when your best friend kisses you, he thought.

He pushed Casey away, and mockingly said (in a way that, he hoped, disguised the smile that was plastered on his face) “you really got to stop doing that”. Then he fled inside, before Casey could say anything else.

Nothing blocked his view of the pyramids until his office desk was almost burdened down by a gigantic forest of flowers someone had the audacity to call a bouquet.

That caused quite a riot at the office, as everyone held their breath while he was reading the attached card.

“Come on! Don’t keep us in suspense: Who sent it?”

“A gentleman never tells.” Dan remained silent.

They tried to pry it out of him with various methods and devices, flattery and threats. Finally Isaac loudly cleared his throat to signal everybody it was time to go back to work. Dan and Casey were left alone in their office.

“Casey, why are you sending me flowers?”

“It’s part of the courtship.”

“This game is getting out of hand.”

“What game?”

“Come on Casey, if I didn’t know better… if it wasn’t you and me… I would think…’

“Think what?”

“Forget it.”

“Think I was serious?”

“Yeah… maybe…”

“I am”

“You’re what?”

“I am serious. I want you, and I’m going to do whatever I can to get you.”

“Get me to do what?”

“Get you” Casey said intently.

“Cut it out.”

“Cut what out?”

”It was funny for a while… but it’s not anymore.”

“I’m not trying to be funny.”

“You want me? What does that even mean??”

“Exactly what you think it means.”

“Do you really want to know what I think it means? I think it means you’re lonely. You figured you don’t want Dana so you’re searching for the next best thing- and I happen to be it.”

“I know you Casey. You can’t be alone for more than two seconds.”

“No. Fortunately, that stage, that intense in love stage, passes.”

“I thought that was the best stage?”

“It’s not. The best stage is next to come.”

“What’s that?”

“And just love allows you to be friends?”

“Definitely”

“I think I prefer just love”

“Me too” Dan nodded and smiled.

“Well here we are” Casey looked up at Dan’s apartment building.

“Here we are” Dan echoed.

“So… What now?”

“Are we still on date- mode?”

“Yes”

“Then we say goodbye, and you may kiss me on the cheek”

“I’m supposed to kiss Dana on the cheek? You forget we already kissed. Besides don’t you usually end up in their bed on the first date?”

“Yes, but I very seldom want to have a relationship with them. If you want a relationship, don’t get physically intimate with a person before there’s an emotional intimacy.”

“Dana was wrong, you are a woman.”

“But I’m also right. I’m your love guru.”

That’s when Casey leaned in to kiss him on the cheek.

“Good night.” Casey smiled and turned to leave.

“Good night” Dan whispered.
